Solar Racing is a form of motorsport where vehicles are powered entirely by the sun. The cars are equipped with photovoltaic panels that convert sunlight into electricity to power the car's motor. The competition pushes innovation in sustainable energy, aerodynamics, and energy efficiency. In America, the most popular forms of competition are the Formula Sun Grand Prix and the American Solar Challenge.
Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) is a closed circuit endurance style race where teams push their cars for maximum performance, efficiency, and reliability. A winner is determined by whichever team completes the most laps over a three day period.
American Solar Challenge (ASC) is a cross country road race where teams compete to drive their cars across long distances, spanning several states and regions, entirely powered by the sun.
Teams competing in both events typically consist of university engineering students from different backgrounds utilizing their skills in order to build the most efficient and reliable vehicle possible.
Of Course! Our team might be focused on an engineering project, but Blaze Raycers is ran like a business. We have needs in marketing, graphic design, accounting, finance, and data analytics, as well as others. We have a place for students with passion and commitment. Our organization strives to provide students of all levels hands on experience that expands beyond the classroom.
Yes, the car is built by hand by our team in order to meet the regulations set forth by the competitions governing bodies. Our team designs and tests each component vigorously before competition to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability.
